Our Programs

Whether you're just starting out or a former competitive skater, the McMaster Figure Skating Development Team has the program for you!

ADULT LEARN 2 SKATE

Adult Learn to Skate is for complete beginners who have never skated before to individuals with some skating experience, but little to no figure skating training! Sessions are structured into 50 minute group lessons and taught by certified coaches and experienced volunteers

WHEN: Monday 10:10pm-11:00pm 

Term 1: September - December

Term 2: January - March 

WHERE: Olympic  Westoby Arena

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:

Approximately CanSkate 1-6.

FREEKSKATE A

Freeskate A is designed for introductory figure skaters who have completed a Learn-To-Skate programs and may have completed some Skate Canada Tests. Optional coaching will be available at no additional charge for private, semi-private and group lessons for dance, freeskate and skills. Lessons are taught by certified coaches and experienced volunteers. Skaters have the option to compete in skate Canada adult competition or complete skate Canada tests​​​

WHEN: Tuesday 9:40pm-10:40pm 

Term 1: September - December

Term 2: January - March

WHERE: Olympic  Westoby Arena

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:

Approximately STAR 1-5.

FREESKATE A

FREEKSKATE B

An open ice session designed to help athletes with significant figure skating experience. Work on: dance, skills, jumps, or anything you want! Skaters have the option to compete in skate Canada adult competition or complete skate Canada tests. Optional, free group lessons with a certified coach are available.

WHEN: Tuesday 10:50pm-12:00pm 

Term 1: September - December

Term 2: January - March

WHERE: Olympic  Westoby Arena

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: Freeskate B is for people who have completed most of their Skate Canada Tests across all disciplines. It is comparable to STAR 6-Gold.

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING

We offer a synchronized skating team for both experienced synchro skaters and other experienced skaters looking to try the discipline for the first time! The team spends the year building their synchro skills and practicing a program. The team typically competes in one Adult 2 competition and may do other performances

 

WHEN: Wednesday00pm - 11:30m

Off-ice: Wednesday 9:00pm - 9:45pm 

On-ice: Wednesday 10:00pm - 11:30pm

September - March

 

WHERE: Harry Howell Arena

 

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: Freeskate C. 

 

**Exceptions for skaters in Freeskate A may be made on a case by case basis at the discretion of the captains and coach.
