Our Programs

FREESKATE GOLD

Freeskate.png

An open ice session designed to help athletes with previous figure skating experience improve their skills. Work on: dance, skills, jumps, or anything you want! Skaters will have the opportunity to train for and compete in Skate Canada adult competitions or complete Skate Canada tests, although this is NOT required. Free access to lessons with Coach Caitlin, Julie, and Lawrence.


WHEN:
Tuesday 10:50pm-12:00pm 

Term 1: September - December (10 sessions)

Term 2: January - March (10 sessions)


WHERE:
Olympic Westoby Arena


SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:

Freeskate Gold is for people who have completed most of their Skate Canada Tests across all disciplines. It is comparable to Star 7 thru Gold levels approximately.

FREESKATE SILVER

Freeskate silver is for people who have surpassed level D on Adult Learn to skate, all the way up to intermediate skaters who’ve completed a good portion of their Skate Canada Tests. This session is divided into Beginner and Intermediates, see below for more info!

BEGINNERS:

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: Surpassed Level D on Adult learn to Skate up to approximately Star 3.

​

SESSION STRUCTURE:

9:40-9:45pm - Warmup/Free time

9:45pm-10:00pm - Group lesson 1

10:00-10:15pm - Group lesson 2

10:15-10:30pm - Group lesson 3

10:30-10:40pm - Free time

 

Group lessons will be for dance, freeskate and skills. Group lessons are taught by certified coaches with the help of senior members of the team

INTERMEDIATES: 

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED: Approximately Star 4 thru Star 6 levels

SESSION STRUCTURE:
9:40-10:40pm - Open ice/Free time! 
Work on whatever you want at your own pace!


Optional coaching will be available at no additional charges for private, semi-private and group lessons for dance, freeskate and skills. Lessons are taught by certified coaches.

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING

A team to help skaters improve their synchronized skating skills through practice and competitions. Compete as a team in adult 1 synchro competitions.

WHEN:

Off-ice: Thursday 9:00pm - 9:45pm 

On-ice: Thursday 10:00pm - 11:30pm

September - March (17 sessions)

Freeskate Gold skaters! Exceptions for skaters from the Freeskate Silver Intermediate level will be made on a case by case basis at the discretion of the captains and Coach Ty.

SKILLS SESSIONS

A session focusing on figure skating skills and turns to help athletes improve their fundamentals. Work on basic skating skills, turns, and field moves. â€‹

Monday 10:10pm-10:40pm 

Term 1: September - December (10 sessions)

Term 2: January - March (10 sessions)

ADULT LEARN TO SKATE

Never been skating before but want to learn? Skated a few times and want to get more comfortable on the ice? This is the program for you! Run by certified coaches with the help of senior members of the skating team, this program will teach you the basics of skating! Enjoy learning in a safe and welcoming environment surrounded by fellow students! Ice will be separated into 4 levels, A-D, to move through, and after level D you can look into moving up to the Freeskate Silver Session! Hockey Skates or Figure Skates both accepted but figure skates preferred. If you don’t already own skates we can give recommendations on where to buy them.

SKILL LEVEL REQUIRED:

Adult learn to skate is for people with little to no experience,all the way up to beginners starting to learn more figuring skating specific skills. It is comparable to Cansakate Stages 1-6 with Star 1 components.
